  • Cardiovascular disorders Described as hridya, hridroga-hara, and asrajit, Arjuna has been reported to benefit in the diseases of the heart and blood vessels, as below - Heart Failure - Arjuna increases the force of contraction of the heart muscle (Cardiotonic / +ve inotropic).
  • It is therefore useful in the management heart failure (congestive heart failure, left ventricular failure), low LVEF, Cor pulmonale, and dilated cardiomyopathy.
  • CAD (Angina / Old MI) - Arjuna has been reported to improve blood supply and prevent / correct ischemia.
  • It prevents tachycardia and too forceful and contractions of the heart muscle.
  • It improves the endothelial health.
  • On the basis of these actions, it is used in the management of CAD (angina and old myocardial infarction) and tachy-arrhythmias.
  • High blood pressure - Described as asrajit, Arjuna lowers the raised blood pressure.
  • However, it doesn’t lower the normal blood pressure.
  • It is thus useful in hypertension. Dyslipidemia & Atherosclerosis - Described as medohara, Arjuna has been reported to lower the total blood cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, and raise the low HDL cholesterol.
  • It is thus useful in raised serum cholesterol, triglycerides (dyslipidemia). Thrombosis – Described as asrajit, Arjuna has been reported to prevent blood from clotting (anti-thrombotic activity).
  • It is thus used to prevent clotting of blood (thrombosis) in CAD, hypertension, and stroke.
  • Bone disorders Described as useful in bhagna, kshata, and kshaya, Arjuna has been reported to promote bone formation.
  • It acts by enhancing bone formation by stimulating osteoblastic activity.
  • It is thus used in the management of fractures, osteoporosis, and avascular necrosis (AVN).
  • Eye disorders Described as asrajit, raktapitta-hara, and meha-hara, Arjuna has been reported to improve the health of the small arteries.
  • It is thus used in the management of eye disorders, like – diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy.
  • Wounds & Ulcers disorders Described as vrana-hara, kshata-hara, and kshaya-hara, Arjuna has been reported to promote healing of the wounds and ulcers.
  • It is thus used in the management of non-healing wounds and ulcers.
